The M16 was brought into service in early 1916 as an answer for the horrible head wounds soldiers were receiving in battle.
It came in 3 different sizes used a headband with segmented pouches as the suspension system for the helmet.
As the first production helmet for Germany, it was a good helmet but did have its flaws. Its large flare at the bottom of the helmet had a habit of distorting sounds and also created an echo when ever the wearer would speak.
The originals were not camouflaged until 1918 and until then the wearers would do the camouflaging themselves using mud, foliage or whatever else was in their surroundings.
These helmets are rare and even harder to find in pristine condition, but if you do, they will make a great addition to any collection.
