As the war marched on, it resulted in the need for a change to the German helmets to reduce the manufacturing time. The rolled edge was eliminated and they reduced the amount of metal used in each helmet. They also did away with adding decals since they were pressed to get the helmets out the door.

It was during this model that many production flaws were found that previous models had been free of.
